Our Company Story

Mr. Jason Elbert Smith is an American businessman and entrepreneur whose path to success was not a simple point A to B journey. Jason graduated from college with AGS recognition and academic honors with a degree in marketing. He launched his company Blue Coast Group, Inc. while still in college. One of his first products was the yo yo balloon. Customers were purchasing yo yo balloons to sell for a fundraiser. Jason did his research and concluded that America needed a better fundraising company. He found many competitors had high prices, large minimums, and web sites with no prices listed. OCFundraising.com was Smith’s start-up. The internet opened the door to more options for groups across the country looking for ways to raise money. Jason’s vision was to offer a large selection of products at competitive prices, provide excellent customer service, and accept small orders. He draws upon old-fashioned values that have governed his family for generations. Jason delivers the highest level of professionalism, integrity, & personal service to all his customers. His caring attitude coupled with his dynamic, energetic approach to life and business shines in every situation.

Smith’s family has always believed in hard work and giving back. Jason continues the family tradition today through his fundraising company. His family ancestors settled in Orange County California in 1872. A newspaper article from 1955 reads “the family is closely identified with Garden Grove and of Orange County itself.” Jason’s Great Grandfather John C. Mitchell was a farmer his entire life and at the request of friends and neighbors served as Supervisor for the 2nd District. He was responsible for the building of Prado Dam and numerous other projects. On April 27, 1955 Mitchell Elementary School in Garden Grove, named for him, was dedicated. The dedication program reads, “The life of John C. Mitchell is a life of civic duty and service to many. Various members of his family have likewise given much of their lives to benefit others.” Mitchell’s brother Richard P. Mitchell was Superintendent of Schools in Orange County from 1908 - 1930.

Jason’s Grandfather Elbert Smith had to drop out of medical school and get a job during the depression. Jason’s grandfather was a farmer and raised two children in a small house in Anaheim, California. Jason’s father was raised poor and his bedroom was a screened-in front porch. After living through tough times a college education and job security were paramount for Jason’s father. In 1954, the farming community was changed forever when Walt Disney announced plans to build an amusement park. Jason’s father was one of the VIP guests at Disneyland on opening day July 17, 1955. Television cameras rolled and America watched Walt along with other celebrities christen the new park. Both of Jason’s parents are retired public school teachers with over 48 years of combined service in the Orange Unified School District and Los Angeles Unified School District. The profession of teaching exemplifies giving back to the community. Jason’s maternal grandfather was an architect and worked on notable projects such as ‘The Big A of Anaheim’ at MLB’s Angel Stadium, and the Casino Building on Catalina Island.

Jason has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and other publications including: Seattle Times, The Atlanta Journal, and Detroit Free Press. The Orange County Register profiled Jason and his company in a full page article. It included his 6 keys to business success. The article gained national attention and was printed in over 20 newspapers. Jason encourages entrepreneurship and wants people to keep dreaming. Smith says, “Start a business today or expand, there are tremendous opportunities in the marketplace. Find your niche. Go for it!”

From day one Jason has been committed to helping groups nationwide raise more money from their fundraising campaigns. This is achieved through guaranteed low prices, which allows groups to retain a maximum percentage of sales revenue. Many years ago in the early stages of Smith’s company his CPA advised him that if prices were not raised slightly Smith would be out of business and then he could not help anyone. Smith and his CPA crunched the numbers and found a way to make them both happy. Plus it provided enough margin for Smith to ‘keep the doors open’, continuing his vision of helping groups nationwide reach their fundraising goals.

Today, Jason Elbert Smith is proud that his company is a leader in the $3.9B product fundraising industry. Having a reputation for competitive prices, reliability, and quality means a lot to Smith. His company offers a large selection of products and works with all types of groups and is the supplier of AMERICA’S Discount Card and CARWASH Fundraiser Cards. As the supplier Smith sells to fundraising distributor companies nationwide. Smith’s company is an active member of the trade association AFRDS (Association of Fund-Raising Distributors & Suppliers).

While his parents impacted the lives of a few thousand during their careers in the classroom, Smith knows that his reach is greater. Jason understands that his company can make a difference and improve the lives of others. Having the ability to impact the world and change things for the better is a privilege, and it is something Smith works hard to accomplish.

It is always nice to hear from our customers after a long summer. To say that September is around the corner is an understatement. Summer Time Planning

I hope everyone is having a nice summer. The heat is on here in California. It is fair season and locally we have the OC Fair, this year's theme is "super fair". There are many great deep fried treats to try. This is a fun time of year because soon the weather will be cooler, children will go back to school, and Halloween will be approaching. The fall is a busy time for fundraising. Have you started thinking about your fundraiser for the fall? We have some exciting announcements to make: discount cards are 100% profit, we have a page on twitter, and we have monthly specials. Okay, so the One Stop Candy Shop was discontinued. We have plenty of chocolate variety carry boxes to choose from. Hershey's has their new $2 product. Make up to 50% profit with Hershey's candy.
